Sanitarium has announced they'll scrap a slew of products: Muesli, Granola, Light n Tasty, Honey Puffs, Weeties, Weet-bix Clusters, Cluster Crisp, Puffed Wheat). This reduction in the product range is in response to changing breakfast trends and declining sales.  That's sad; these products have been part of our breakfast since childhood, for which many of us feel deep familiarity and trust.

These may not have been the worst performing of Sanitarium's products; it's just that keeping them alive would cost $28 million of capex.

A possible upside is that this will make kiwi breakfasts healthier, by canceling their most sugary cereal products. The average sugar content of the products being cancelled is 12%. Those that remain contain far less - just 7%. And that could be a better alignment with the core values of a brand that stakes a claim to being "The Health Food Company".

Nevertheless after such a drastic contraction (not to mention job cuts), it remains to be seen where Sanitarium's product offering and their brand will go from here.
